I often say that the 01SJ Biennial – I’m the artistic director – is multidisciplinary and medium agnostic. I’m not sure I ever thought that meant we would be programming at a Mariachi Festival.
This weekend, however, I’m very excited about some programming that ZER01 is presenting at the “T-Mobile San Jose Mariachi & Mexican Heritage Festival Presented by Target.”
Temporary Art / Sculpture Park at Canal / Varick / Sixth / Grand. Titled LentSpace and designed by Brooklyn based Interboro Partners, the project is sponsored by the owners of the block, Trinty Real Estate and curated by the Lower Manhattan Community Council (LMCC).
There is so much world-class architecture in the Twin Cities now that you can hardly pick up an in-flight magazine without reading herzogdemeurongravesnouvel, but there is something to be said for the ephemeral. It allows, perhaps, for greater experimentation – on the part of both the artist-architect and the presenter.
