Wil Natzel, Dazzle
“The lurid lights, which cycle slowly between magenta, green, blue, and a kind of white could be either distress signals or bait for unsuspecting prey.”
Dazzle
Wil Natzel’s Dazzle looks like a hybrid of some armor scaled beetle drill bit, which is both burrowing between and trapped within the narrow confines of the restroom corridor of Alma Lights. The lurid lights, which cycle slowly between magenta, green, blue, and a kind of white could be either distress signals or bait for unsuspecting prey. And in a sense that’s what we do. We fall prey to Natzel’s virtuoso corrugated plastic honeypot, attracted to pay attention to one of the most non-places at Alma Lights. As with Laura Bigger’s Portal, if only all back-of-house areas at the future ALMA: Cafe, Restaurant and Inn – or anywhere – were as alluring, life would be better.
