Zero Waste Team: Northern Spark 2018

The Zero Waste Team members will manage materials collection at Northern Spark to support our goal of moving towards a more sustainable event. NOTE: This is an overnight position working the hours of 8pm – 3am both Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16.

Duties
The Zero Waste Team will work together near food vendors to ensure waste is sorted by audience members into appropriate organics, recycling and waste bins. They will also manage materials carts (moving full organics/recycling/waste bins to designated areas and resetting clean carts to food vendor sites). They may also bag and move waste to designated areas.

These positions are public-facing and require interaction with festival-goers.

Time Commitment
The following hours are mandatory:

  • 8pm – 3am both festival nights (7 hours each night, June 15-16 & June 16-17)
  • De-brief meeting (TBD) – 1 hour

You will also be invited to a post-event party the week after the festival to celebrate our accomplishments!

Qualifications
Ideal candidates have an interest in zero waste and sustainability. They must be comfortable and confident interacting with the general public and educating audiences on sorting waste.  Candidates must be able to work on their feet for extended hours, respond to urgent requests, and be able to lift 30 lbs. This position requires individuals to stay up late at night!

Fee
This is an hourly contract positions paid at a rate of $20/hour.

 

Northern Spark 2018

Northern Spark is known as an annual dusk-to-dawn art festival that takes place in early June in different venues across the Twin Cities. In 2018 we are trying something new and holding Northern Spark on 2 consecutive nights until 2 am. (See below). The 2018 theme is Commonality — we ask artists and our communities to consider what we have in common in fractured times. See more here.  

Location

The primary venues for Northern Spark 2018 are in downtown Minneapolis:

Northern Spark is producing the nodes at The Commons and Nicollet and collaborating with Hennepin County Library on the Minneapolis Central Library.

Dates and Times

In 2018, Northern Spark will take place over two nights, the third weekend in June only until 2 am:

  • Friday, June 15, from 9:02 pm to 2 am
  • Saturday, June 16, from 9:02 pm to 2 am
