Summary: Artwork in Any Medium

This is an open call for two-night projects in any medium for Northern Spark 2018.  Projects may take place at The Commons, inside Minneapolis Central Library or along Nicollet Mall between 4th and 8th Streets in downtown Minneapolis.

Eligibility

This call is for individual artists, artist collectives or artist-led teams, not organizations or companies. Artists living anywhere are eligible to participate, but there is no additional funding available for shipping or travel. 

Artwork in any medium

We are seeking proposals for projects in any medium* – projections, poetry, installation, indoor sound works, hands-on maker activities, etc.  Your proposal does not have to include a specific footprint or site, but should at least describe the type of site that would be ideal for your project.
*Please note there is also a call for roving, mobile and/or performative works along Nicollet Mall, and a call for Artwork in any medium at Northern Spark and Little Africa Festival.

Note that there are two other calls for artworks on Nicollet Mall, one for performances, and one for a lighting project. In the meantime, if you have a questions, please email submissions@northern.lights.mn

Budgets

Projects for this call will be funded at these levels:

The Commons, any medium: $5,000

Minneapolis Central Library, any medium: $2,500 and $1,000

Nicollet between 4th and 8th Streets, any medium: $5,000

Budgets should include everything necessary to present the project from construction to installation and deinstallation and artist fees. Northern Lights.mn will provide electricity and standard permitting, although some elements such as fire and food may have additional permitting costs, which will come out of your project budget.
