Northern Spark is a one-night, all-night participatory arts festival that lights up the Twin Cities on the second Saturday of June. Now in it’s 7th year, Northern Spark – presented by Northern Lights.mn – will take place on Saturday, June 10th, 2017 along the Metro Transit Light Rail Green Line spanning Downtown Minneapolis and Lowertown St. Paul. This will be the second and culminating year of Northern Spark’s climate change theme under the banner of Climate Chaos | Climate Rising.

JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT PRODUCER

The Assistant Producer will work on a wide range of tasks leading up to the festival, during the festival, and for one week afterwards. This position reports to the Producer and works in coordination with the rest of the production team, including Technical Director and Zone Producers. It manages the Function Crew.

Estimated hours: Project fee for work starting February through June. Anticipated 10 hours per week Feb, March and April.  20 hours per week expected May and June, increasing as needed throughout, with full time requirement June 5-15.  Evening and weekend hours to be expected throughout.

Duration: February through June 30th, 2017

Reports to: NS Producer

TASKS INCLUDE:

Advance work:

  • Communications with the cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, Metro Transit and/or parks departments about permits and coordinating permitting (preparing paperwork, checking on status, resolving issues, etc.)
  • Coordinating and/or staffing project testing nights with artists and venues
  • Tracking equipment and materials
  • Drafting schedules
  • Tracking and maintaining contacts
  • Sourcing/obtaining equipment and materials, with Producer and Technical Director
  • Additional tasks, tbd

Day/Night-of work:

  • Management of function crew for setup and breakdown of festival amenities (bike racks, info hubs, barricades, signage, sandbags, etc)
  • On-site problem-solving
  • Additional tasks, tbd

Post-festival work:

  • Compiling information for production reports
  • Taking inventory of equipment (tents, projectors, etc)
  • Returning of materials to vendors and/or storage facilities (i.e. walkie-talkies, signage, tents, etc.), with help from the function crew
  • Additional tasks, tbd

Requirements:

Excellent written and verbal communications; ability to work independently and efficiently.

Experience using Google Docs is essential, knowledge of Asana preferred but not necessary if willing to learn.
